How to Play Ultron
Ultron is a long-range, permanent flying Strategist, capable of providing constant healing while dealing decent damage.

Playstyle
Ultron’s basic attack functions similarly to Emma Frost’s, dealing continuous burst laser damage. However, there are key differences in range and mechanics. After the end of each laser fire, Ultron releases a burst of additional damage. Unlike Emma's, his basic attack has no maximum range, but the damage decreases with distance, the farther the target, the less damage it deals.
With a toolkit like this, Ultron has the potential to fill a hybrid role, acting as both a support and a flanker, depending on the situation. The best way to play Ultron is to be semi-aggressive, helping both in engaging enemies and defending the friendly backline.
Many players consider Ultron a weak character due to his low-value healing and lack of high burst damage. However, with the right playstyle and tactics, Ultron can become a highly valuable asset to the team. Keep in mind that while the value of the heal is not huge, Ultron's specialty is constant AoE healing.
Skill Usage
Imperative: Patch is a healing skill capable of healing his teammates by sending a healing drone to a friendly target. The drone will continuously heal the ally target and those in close proximity.
Imperative: Patch has no cooldown, meaning you can instantly switch the drone’s target to whoever needs healing. Even better, the drone cannot be destroyed, making it a reliable support tool throughout the match. Here’s the best way to use it:
- At the start of the match, immediately send Imperative: Patch to your frontline Vanguard to provide consistent healing and to farm your Ultimate.
- During teamfights, always prioritize healing your Vanguards. The only exception is when your Duelists or Strategists are critically low, then it’s worth temporarily switching the drone to assist them.
- Send your healing drone to ally brawlers like Magik or The Thing when you are trying to capture a point or pushing through a choke point.
Note that there is a limited range between you and your healing drone. If you fly too far, the drone will automatically goes offline. So make sure to stay close to the allies you're trying to heal. The drone will also go offline if you lose line of sight to it, such as when it’s blocked by walls.
Imperative: Firewall enhances allies around you and those who are marked by Imperative: Patch by granting them bonus health. The skill’s AoE functions similarly to Storm’s buff, so avoid flying too high when activating Imperative: Firewall, as doing so will reduce the AoE radius, potentially missing nearby allies.
Ultimate

Ultron’s Ultimate summons a swarm of drones to unleash a barrage of Encephalo-Rays, dealing heavy AoE splash damage to enemies while healing nearby allies. The healing output is exceptionally high, even surpassing Luna Snow’s Ultimate in terms of healing per tick.
This makes Ultron’s Ultimate a powerful counter-Ultimate tool. Time it carefully when enemies activate their Ultimates, and your team will likely survive, as long as you aim the rays toward your allies to maximize the healing effect.
Positioning
While Ultron can fly high and reposition quickly, many of his skill animations are lengthy, leaving him vulnerable during casting.
- Make sure to position yourself near cover, preferably near unbreakable objects, to safely peek and support your team.
- Position yourself close to your Vanguards, between them and the other Strategists.
If a Vanguard decides to dive ahead, its best for you to follow them to provide constant healing, bonus health, and support them with your basic attack, or preferrably your Nano Ray from the Stark Protocol Team-Up.
Additionally, avoid flying too high, as this makes you an easy target for sharpshooters like Hela, The Punisher, Hawkeye, or Black Widow.
Ultron Team-Up Ability
As revealed on Season 2.5 Dev Talk, Ultron will have a Team-Up with Iron Man, just as we have predicted. The new Team-Up is called Stark Protocol, in which Ultron gains the ability to use Iron Man's Unibeam for a powerful piercing blast that damages enemies and heals allies.
This ability is similar to how Jeff the Land Shark heals after the recent balance changes, where he also deals damage to anyone splashed by his healing water.
Best Team Composition for Ultron
Here are the best characters to be paired with Ultron:
- Groot, Doctor Strange, and Magneto are shielding Vanguards who will be protecting you in the match. Stay behind them and deploy your healing drone to keep them sustained, allowing them to remain strong on the frontlines.
- Thor is a Vanguard who can benefit greatly from your healing drone. Both of you can dive together to break through the enemy's defense.
- Magik and Mister Fantastic are brawler Duelists who will greatly benefit from your healing drone, as it provides constant healing while they fight in the thick of battle.
- Iron Man is the most obvious pairing with Ultron, thanks to the Stark Protocol Team-Up.
- Luna Snow and Cloak & Dagger offer higher healing values, making them essential partners for Ultron to compensate for his lower healing output.
How to Counter Ultron
The best way to counter Ultron is to use burst damage Duelists and relentless chasers:
- Iron Fist and Star-Lord are relentless chasers. Even if Ultron uses his Dynamic Flight to run away, both of these heroes can still chase him thanks to their high mobility and fast movement speed.
- Hela and The Punisher are high burst damage, hit-scan Duelists who can quickly kill Ultron before he gets away.
- Mister Fantastic can close the gap toward Ultron even when he is trying to run away. His stretchy arms can also reach long-range, even when Ultron is flying.
- Spider-Man is the best flanker to one-combo kill Ultron.
