Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol Meta Tier List

Marvel Rivals' new game mode, Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol, has a lot of possible team compositions, and choosing the right heroes can be a bit tricky. In this guide, we'll rank all heroes from S-tier to D-tier. Remember that team-up abilities, modules, and synergies matter more than just picking good characters in this mode.

How to Choose the Best Heroes in Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol

When ranking these heroes, we focused on three key criteria that determine success in this auto-battler format.

  • Solo performance of a character regardless of the team composition.
  • Team-up: How effective their team-up synergies are. Not every team-up ability is equally useful.
  • Ultimate abilities - Characters with impactful ultimates are a great addition in your line up (provided they synergise well)
  • Strengthen modules: Just like team-up abilities, not every character has the best Strengthen Modules; hence try to pick the characters that have strong Strengthen Modules.

It's important to understand that a well-built team with optimized modules can make A-tier characters outperform S-tier ones.

This tier list provides a baseline understanding of each character's performance as an individual unit across various team setups and how well they perform in flexible compositions.

Best Heroes in Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol

1. Venom

Venom is probably the best tank in this mode right now and can be played in nearly any team. His King in Black strengthen module lets him permanently gain health based on damage dealt, and he can grow to massive sizes. He is a reliable pick in any team composition.

Strengthen Modules:

  • Guaranteed Survival: Reduce Symbiotic Resilience cooldown by 7s, increase the extra health coefficient by 0.3, and restore 30% of lost health upon activation.
  • King in Black: Devour permanently grants 10% of damage dealt as maximum health, up to 1,200, and enlarges the character.

Compositions:

  • Venom can be a part of nearly any composition in this mode that requires a tank.
  • Core part of the 6 Vanguard Composition.

2. Iron Man

Iron Man's ultimate ability is really strong and can be spammed if you are using the right team setup and modules. The Proton Cannon module adds 500 base damage and 5m range, turning him into a late-game monster. Another reason we have added him to the best characters list is that there are a lot of characters that pair well with him, and most of all, these characters are in meta, such as Rocket Raccoon and Adam Warlock.

Strengthen Modules:

  • Proton Cannon: Increase Ultimate Ability base damage by 500 and range by 5m.
  • Last Stand: Gain 250 Bonus Health and 600 Ultimate Ability Energy each time a teammate is KO'd.

Compositions:

  • He works really well in revive comps where he gets to spam his ultimate. You can pair him with characters like Adam Warlock or Rocket Raccoon.

Recommended Modules:

  • Modules that increase your overall damage and ultimate energy are recommended for Iron Man in this mode, such as Charge Acceleration, Precharged Energy, and Dual Enhancement.

3. Jeff the Land Shark

Jeff's ultimate ability can change the entire flow of a match. When he swallows three or more enemies, his Looting Leviathan module gives your team random base modules. The more enemies he eats, the better the modules you get, potentially snowballing into victory.

Strengthen Modules:

  • Split Water Columns: Joyful Splash fires two additional water columns.
  • Looting Leviathan:  Gain a random base module each time Jeff devours more than 3 enemies with his Ultimate Ability. The more enemies Jeff consumes, the higher the chance of receiving a rarer module.
    • Devour 4: Common 90%, Rare 8%, Epic 2%
    • Devour 5: Common 60%, Rare 30%, Epic 10%
    • Devour 6 or more: Common 0%, Rare 70%, Epic 30%

Compositions

  • Jeff the Land Shark works well with Venom.
  • You can pair him with two other meta Strategists as well such as Invisible Woman and Loki.
  • Storm is also a decent pairing option, but honestly, we feel there are better comps and duelists in the current meta that don't really have Storm as a core character in it.

Recommended Modules:

  • Use modules that increase your ultimate ability energy gain, such as Charge Acceleration, Precharged Energy.
  • Another priority module for you should be Infinite Drive.

4. Loki

Loki excels at both healing and creating chaos with his illusions. His Final Illusion module reduces cooldown by 9 seconds and increases maximum illusions to 2. When he copies other characters' ultimates, it can create favorable outcomes.

Strengthen Modules:

  • Final Illusion: Reduce Doppelganger cooldown by 9s, increase the maximum number of illusions to 2, and boost healing coefficient by 50%.
  • Loki's Sanctuary: Reduce Regeneration Domain cooldown by 18s, and increase Force Field Core health by 100.

Compositions:

  • Loki is a meta strategist and can be a part of most of the teams even as a solo strategist in the team.
  • He synergises well with Hela due to his team-up ability and this also makes Iron-Man a favorable pick alongside Hela, as Iron Man's Last Stand strengthen module can really benefit from this team-up.

5. Invisible Woman

Invisible Woman works well in almost every team. She is a meta strategist that can be comfortably added to a 2-2-2 comp, or if most enemies are playing dive comps, or even if you are playing 3 duelist 3 strategist comps.

Strengthen Modules:

  • Best Guardian: Increase Guardian Shield radius by 2m, maximum health by 750, and recovery speed by 100 per second, while enhancing the slowdown effect on enemies passing through the Guardian Shield.
  • Greater Psionic Vortex: Reduce Psionic Vortex cooldown by 8s, increase its range by 2m, and enhance its pulling effect.

Compositions:

  • Works in nearly every team composition.

6. Rocket Raccoon

Rocket provides incredible utility with his revive stations. His B.R.B.A.S.A.P. module reduces cooldown by 38 seconds and increases beacon limit by 4. You can make the most out of this setup by using characters such as Iron-Man especially if you have already secured the Last Stand module for Iron-Man.

Strengthen Modules:

  • Full-Time Medic: Increase Repair Mode fire rate and magazine capacity by 40%, extend Repair Mode duration by 3s, and raise healing limit to 10
  • B.R.B.A.S.A.P.: Reduce B.R.B. cooldown by 38s and increase Beacon Limit by 4. The Beacons can also revive themself.

Compositions:

  • Rocket Raccoon works well in revive team comps with characters such as Iron-Man and Adam Warlock.

7. Adam Warlock

Resurrection wins games in this mode, and Adam Warlock is the resurrection king. His ultimate can bring back entire teams, completely swinging matches that seemed lost. On top of that, one of his strengthen module, the Fighting Nation Descent, gives revived allies 80% increased damage for 5 seconds.

Strengthen Modules:

  • Forge to Revive: Increase Ultimate Ability post-revival health by 100 and Invincible duration by 2s.
  • Fighting Nation Descent: Increase damage of allies revived by the Ultimate Ability by 80% for 5s.

Compositions:

  • Just like Rocket Raccoon, Adam Warlock works well with Iron Man, Loki, and Hela.
  • You can even play him as a solo strategist in your team.

8. Namor

Namor's strength comes from his turret spawns that shoot across the entire battlefield. His Monstro Spawns Army module increases the spawn limit by 4 and extends the duration by 8 seconds. It's like having extra team members who never stop firing.

Strengthen Modules:

  • Monstro Spawns Army: Reduce Aquatic Dominion cooldown by 9s, increase Monstro Spawns limit by 4, health by 50, and maximum duration by 8s.
  • Imperius Rex: Reduce Wrath of the Seven Seas cooldown by 3s and extend Monstro Spawn berserk duration by 2s.

Compositions:

  • Namor works really good against dive comps.
  • Hulk's team-up with Namor benefits him "a lot", so it is highly recommended to have Hulk on your team. Also, because he is a meta tank in this mode.

9. Hulk/Bruce Banner

Hulk is probably the best tank after Venom. He doesn't have the same overall impact as Venom but he is still quite strong. He is great in tank-heavy teams and works well with the Hulk-Namor team-up.

Strengthen Modules:

  • Gamma Shield Bomb: Each Indestructible Guard shield triggers an area explosion upon ending.
  • Gamma Shield Generator: Accelerate Indestructible Guard casting speed, and refresh Indestructible Guard cooldown after dealing 200 damage.

Team Compositions:

  • Works well with Namor.
  • It is recommended to have another Vanguard alongside Hulk to soak up the damage. The best one to choose right now is Venom.

10. Hela

I know this might be a bit of a shocker, but personally, I love playing Hela with revive comps, and I have found a lot of success with it. Hela brings consistent damage output, especially in the early to mid game.

Strengthen Modules:

  • Soul Reaper:  Increase Nightsword Thorn fire rate and magazine capacity by 70%.
  • Split Nightsword Thorn: Increase Nightsword Thorn projectiles by 4.

Compositions:

  • Same as Iron Man, Hela works well in resurrection-focused team comps and pairs well with characters such as Adam Warlock.
  • Loki is a meta strategist in this mode, and having a "useful" team-up with him benefits Hela even further, so even Loki becomes a viable choice as he goes well in resurrection-focused team comps as well.

Other Notable Mentions

Here are a few other characters that I feel are really strong in current meta:

  • Winter Soldier
  • Wolverine
  • Peni Parker
  • Luna Snow
  • Moon Knight

The outcome of a match really depends on a lot of factors, and there is a high chance our experience with these characters might not be the same as yours. Maybe there are some sleeper OP picks or team comps that you are playing that we haven't tried yet. But the picks we chose are currently doing well in the current meta and team comps. A lot of them do independently well, too, such as Invisible Woman and Venom. Remember that your modules, team composition, and even formation matters a lot.
