Thor's blue path build focuses on his Awakening Rune state. The blue path significantly outperforms the red side build, especially when clearing Nightmare 4. If you want to push high difficulties, the blue path is the only viable option worth building.
Playing Thor in lower difficulties, I initially placed him in S tier, but after Nightmare 4 testing, he feels more like a low A tier character. Unlike Magik, who sits at the higher end of A tier, Thor's performance in the highest difficulty puts him closer to the boundary between A and B tier. However, I still consider him an A-tier character in the current Marvel Rivals Zombie mode meta.
Thor Abilities in Zombie Mode
For the blue path build, your ability choices directly impact your damage output. Here are all available modifications:
| Ability Slot | Option Name | Unlock Level | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Left Click | Mjolnir Bash | Default | Wield Mjolnir to strike enemies. When Awakened, Thor can launch lightning arc waves to deal damage |
| Thunderous Slam | Level 5 | Mjolnir Bash covers a wider zone, and each hit directly restores Thorforce, independent of ability use | |
| Chain Bolt | Level 5 | Mjolnir Bash attaches chain lightning upon hitting the target. Each hit of Mjolnir Bash and lightning realm directly restores Thorforce, independent of ability use | |
| Lightning Realm | Lightning Realm | Default | Summon lightning to restore Thorforce based on the number of hit enemies. Enemies leaving the Lightning Realm will suffer Slow and Grounded effects |
| Concussion Cell | Level 15 | Stuns enemies within range. Enemies leaving the realm will also be stunned | |
| Bastion Dome | Level 15 | Create a protective shield that knocks enemies away | |
| Ultimate | God of Thunder | Default | Soar upwards and smite the ground after charging for a duration, inflicting damage and stunning enemies within range |
| Ion Siphon | Level 25 | While airborne, continually pull enemies toward the center. Gain Damage Reduction and increased Life Steal during the effect | |
| Thunderclap Surge | Level 25 | Cause a large-ranged shockwave and launch up enemies within range when smiting the ground. Gain Damage Reduction and increased Life Steal during the effect |
Recommended Setup: Equip Concussion Cell for your Lightning Realm ability to stun enemies. You can use Thunderclap Surge for your ultimate, though you will rarely need it during matches.
Best Thor Traits
Invest all trait points into the blue side for this build. The blue traits improve your Mjolnir Bash projectiles during the Awakening Rune state, which is where all your damage comes from throughout matches.

The red side traits are not worth investing in if you want to clear Nightmare 4. The blue path provides significantly better performance at high difficulties.
In-Game Shop Priorities
Building Thor correctly depends heavily on getting specific blessings. Missing one key blessing early can seriously impact your entire run, so understanding blessing priorities matters significantly.
Hero-Specific Blessings

You can completely skip all red hero specific blessings. They do not contribute to the blue path build. Focus exclusively on blue blessings when they appear in the shop.
- Endstorm is the core blessing that makes this build work. This blessing allows you to hold the right mouse button during the Awakening Rune to fire projectiles rapidly at the cost of awakening duration. Without this blessing, the build does not reach its full potential.
- Power Prolongation increases your Awakening Rune duration. More duration means more time firing projectiles and dealing damage.
- Thunder Havoc increases your Mjolnir Bash projectile size during Awakening Rune.
- Cranium Crusher allows your Mjolnir Bash projectiles to deal headshot damage during Awakening Rune. Getting duplicate cards increases the headshot multiplier. This blessing adds significant damage when you can consistently land headshots on zombies.
General Blessings
- Vampiric Vitality is extremely important for Thor. You want to grab them throughout your run. The lifesteal keeps you alive during heavy waves and boss fights.
- Full Moon is kinda staple for nearly every character as it gives you more moon power to spend. You can skip it if you want, but in most of my builds, I always get it.
- Power Surge boosts your damage dealt percentage. Pick this up whenever it appears in the shop. Stacking damage dealt becomes your primary way to scale damage output.
- Vitality Boost provides extra health, which helps you survive longer in fights.
- Moonlight Protection offers damage reduction. Grab this to improve survivability.
Is Thor Worth Playing in Zombie Mode?
Thor works effectively across all content and difficulty levels. His blue build path provides strong wave clear and decent boss damage. The main consideration is clear speed compared to other meta characters such as The Punisher and Blade. This does not make Thor weak or unviable.
His placement in low A tier reflects solid performance with some limitations at the highest difficulty. Thor requires specific blessings to function, particularly Endstorm. Missing this key blessing early significantly weakens your damage output. When everything comes together with the right blessings, Thor performs well, but the build depends more on blessing luck.
For players who enjoy Thor's playstyle and ranged damage approach, he is a viable pick. You just need patience to build up the right blessings and understanding that clear times will be slightly longer.
If you have different blessing priorities or strategies that work well, share them in the comments and mention which difficulty level you tested on.
