The Marvel Rivals community is buzzing with excitement after recent leaks hinted at five potential new characters, one of them being Amaranth. Since she’s a relatively new addition to the Marvel universe, many fans might not be familiar with her background or abilities. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at Amaranth, her leaked abilities, possible role, and a prediction of how she might play in Marvel Rivals.
Who is Amaranth in Marvel?
Amaranth Hawlut is a relatively new Marvel character, introduced in Scarlet Witch #6 (2024) as part of the New Champions variant cover initiative by artist Jen Bartel. She’s the daughter of the cosmic forces Witchcraft and Chaos, created as a living symbol of balance between the two.

Originally named Aaf Capmi Piap, meaning “Among Power, Balance,” she later chose the name Amaranth and was adopted by Philip Hawlut. Raised on Earth, she eventually became the apprentice of Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch), sent by Agatha Harkness to train under her.
Amaranth is a powerful magic user with instinctive spellcasting abilities, especially adept at blocking or canceling magic, an extremely rare talent. She also has the power to fly and can drive people insane with just eye contact, making her a formidable force in any magical battle.
Amaranth Abilities and Role Leaks
Trusted Marvel Rivals dataminer X0X_LEAK has revealed that Amaranth is expected to be a melee Duelist. The leak also included the possible names of her abilities:
- Chaos Spike
- Spell Counter
- Chaos Rain
- Frenzied Deterrence

From what’s been leaked, Amaranth is looking like a Duelist with some solid crowd control in her kit. I can see Chaos Spike being one of her main abilities, along with Spell Counter, which sounds super interesting. It probably cancels an enemy skill and fires back with a burst of damage, not a full-on reflect like what Mister Fantastic or Hawkeye do, but more of a counter-hit.
Her ult, Chaos Rain, could be an AoE nuke, kind of like Moon Knight’s. And Frenzied Deterrence sounds like a fun passive, imagine stunning enemies just by landing enough hits. That would be so satisfying to pull off!
Amaranth Gameplay Prediction
From the leaks, it looks like Amaranth will be a strong close-range brawler with the unique ability to counter enemy skills. Given how much she relies on precise timing and positioning, it wouldn’t be surprising if she ends up being a 4 or even 5-star difficulty hero.

She’s described as a melee Duelist who uses magic, making her a solid pick for team fights, similar to how Magik works. But while Magik gains armor on hit, Amaranth might instead stun enemies if she lands consecutive attacks. That actually makes sense, considering she’s Scarlet Witch’s apprentice, and Wanda’s chaos magic can stun enemies in the game.
Her key ability, though, would likely be Spell Counter. This could be a game-changer against skill-heavy heroes like Human Torch, Spider-Man, Winter Soldier, or even most Strategists. Shutting down a combo and flipping the momentum could be devastating in the right hands. That said, it will take solid timing and a deep understanding of enemy playstyles to pull off.
Will she outshine Magik as a brawler? Probably not, but she’s definitely introducing some exciting new mechanics and a fresh playstyle that could make her a fan favorite.
When Will Amaranth Release?
Amaranth probably won’t be released anytime soon, likely not until around Season 5. Several other characters are already in development and are more likely to arrive first, such as Ultron in Season 2.5, and Blade or Professor X potentially in Season 3.
Fans are also expecting popular heroes like Jean Grey, Deadpool, or Daredevil to be introduced sooner than Armor or other recently leaked characters. Of course, these are just predictions, so take them with a grain of salt.
That said, the Amaranth leak is pretty exciting, it shows NetEase is willing to spotlight fresh faces instead of just the usual classic characters. It might even get fans more curious about the newer comics, not just the old favorites.
