How to Play Phoenix
Phoenix is a ranged Duelist who can deal massive AoE damage, has a strong mobility skill, and is capable of disrupting enemy positioning.
Phoenix’s basic attack is a hitscan ranged attack. What makes it unique is that each hit applies a Spark stack, up to a total of two stacks. After landing two hits on the same enemy, the next attack triggers an explosion that damages nearby enemies and slowly heals herself.
Enemies hit by the explosion also gain a Spark stack, which opens up a unique chain reaction damage mechanic. Instead of chaining projectiles like Moon Knight, Phoenix can trigger continuous explosion damage when enemies are grouped together.
Positioning
Phoenix has two mobility skills. The first is the Telepathic Illusion quick dash, and the second is Dark Ascent, her flight ability. She can fly for a short duration until the flight gauge is depleted. Make use of these abilities to reposition to higher ground or circle around obstacles to reach a vantage point for free hits.
The best position for Phoenix is right behind ally Vanguards who can deploy shields. This setup allows her to safely chip away at enemy health with her explosive attacks while staying protected. When the moment is right, use her Telepathic Illusion and Dark Ascent to reposition and find a vantage point, giving her a clear line of sight to damage enemies without being detected.
Ultimate
Her Ultimate is exactly what you’d expect from a primordial being, powerful and terrifying. Upon activating Endsong Inferno, she leaps into the air and transforms into her Phoenix form for 20 seconds, gaining the ability to fly at high speed. Players can slightly control her flight direction after deciding on a landing spot, so knowing where to go is essential.
While in Phoenix form, passing through enemies triggers an explosion. The best part comes when she slams into the ground, which triggers a massive AoE explosion that deals continuous burst damage, destroying enemy Summons, Shields, and any Bonus Health.
This ability is perfect for capturing objectives or engaging enemies who are heavily defending a choke point or contested area. The more enemies and utilities in the zone, the more devastating this ability becomes.
Phoenix Team-Up Ability
Phoenix has a Team-Up ability with Wolverine, called Primal Flame. Phoenix will be the anchor for this new Team-Up, infusing Wolverine with the Phoenix Force.
- Phoenix: 10% damage boost
- Wolverine: Phoenix Force-infused Feral Leap
Jean Grey imbues Wolverine with the awe-inspiring Phoenix Force. With this power, Wolverine's Feral Leap transforms into Phoenix Warrior. While active, he is enveloped in Phoenix flames that continuously scorch him and nearby enemies, dealing Percentage Damage. In this state, Wolverine's abilities gain Lifesteal when inflicting damage.
Best Team Composition for Phoenix
Here are the best characters to be paired with Phoenix:
- Groot and Doctor Strange can both perform Ultimate combos with Phoenix’s chain explosion ability.
- Wolverine has a Team-Up with Phoenix, enhancing his Feral Leap and increasing the team’s overall value.
- Moon Knight can use his Ankh to pull enemies closer, allowing Phoenix to trigger continuous explosions while Moon Knight bursts them down.
- Cloak & Dagger and Rocket Raccoon are both Strategists who can heal from a distance and bounce their healing. Since Phoenix tends to fly around the battlefield, their healing kits perfectly complement her playstyle.
How to Counter Phoenix
- Doctor Strange and Emma Frost are both shield-heavy Vanguards who can block Phoenix’s projectiles, constantly forcing her to reposition.
- The Punisher and Star-Lord are hitscan heroes capable of dealing consistent burst damage, applying constant pressure to Phoenix.
- Cloak & Dagger’s Ultimate and Dark Teleportation can effectively counter Phoenix’s Ultimate and chain explosion damage.
Phoenix is shaping up to be a powerful Duelist, capable of dealing massive AoE damage and equipped with great mobility skills that allow players to explore a variety of playstyles. By following this guide, you’ll be able to maximize Phoenix’s potential and become the Omega-level mutant that enemies will fear.
