The latest Marvel Rivals Dev Vision for Season 3 dropped some massive changes. With a new two-month season schedule, Phoenix joining the roster, and major balance adjustments, the developers are making big changes. Let's break down everything they revealed about Season 3: The Abyss Awakens.
Note: We are currently updating this article.
New Characters in Season 3
Phoenix is joining the roster as a ranged duelist wielding the power of the Phoenix Force. Check out our complete guide on Phoenix here.
Blade is also confirmed to join the roster in Season 3.5, giving players another hero to look forward to mid-season.
New Team-Ups in Season 3
Season 3 introduces brand new team-up abilities while retiring two older ones:
Primal Flame
Phoenix infuses Wolverine with the Phoenix Force. When Wolverine uses his Feral Leap, the Phoenix Force activates, burning nearby enemies over time and adding life steal to all of Wolverine's attacks.
Everburning Bond
Human Torch channels his flames into a special gadget for Spider-Man. This unlocks a flaming web ability that deals damage over time and applies burn tracer. Spider-Man can use "get over here" to zip to enemies with Burn Tracer, triggering an explosion. Burn Tracers and Spider Tracers can both be attached to the same enemy.
Adjusted Team-Ups in Season 3
Symbiote Shenanigans
Hela joins the symbiote team-up. When triggered, symbiote tendrils now lash out at enemies, linking them together and slowing their movement as they're dragged toward the impact point.
Stark Protocol
Squirrel Girl joins the Stark Protocol team-up with Iron Man. He gives her a nano-tech gauntlet that lets her command squirrels to ride a glove, and it explodes on impact. Perfect for targeting enemy flyers.
Retired Team-Ups in Season 3
Two team-ups are being completely removed: Storming Ignition and ESU Alumnus.
Hero Balance Updates
The developers are making significant changes to address the current meta problems:
Characters receiving buffs:
- Venom
- The Thing - Getting a new "battle blitz" ability that lets him jump directly to selected enemies.
- Namor
- Mantis
- Invisible Woman - Healing efficiency improved
- Scarlet Witch
Characters receiving nerfs:
- Emma Frost
- Iron Man - Poke potential slightly reduced
- The Punisher - Turret power and ultimate charge rate decreased
- Mister Fantastic - Survivability in inflated state turned down
- Loki - Ultimate ability charge rate nerfed
- Ultron - Slight nerf to survivability and protective capabilities
Team-Up Adjustments: The Guardian Revival team-up is getting nerfed while making Mantis stronger independently.
New Competitive Mode Coming
A new competitive mode will be launching in the latter half of Season 3.5. The developers haven't shared details yet, but they're also planning Marvel Rivals' first offline tournament!
Major Customization Overhaul
Season 3 brings huge improvements to hero customization:
- Accessories System: Nine heroes are getting new accessories you can unlock - Winter Soldier, Psylocke, Groot, Loki, Rocket Raccoon, Jeff The Land Shark, Invisible Woman, Emma Frost, and Spider-Man. Just play matches to earn points, then spend them on accessories you want.
- Mix and Match MVP Animations: You can now use any costume and equip any MVP animation from any other costume of the same hero. Your team background will also change to match your equipped costume.
- New Chroma Variants: More skins are getting different color options. Some costumes also get special Ultimate VFX! List of skins getting new Chroma options:
- Unstable Molecules: Starting in Season 3, you can earn unstable molecules through the battle pass and events.
Quality of Life Improvements
- Mission System Overhaul: Weekly missions now stick around until the season ends instead of disappearing after a week. You can skip weeks without losing progress, but you still have to complete missions in the right order. Season-long missions are being added, and they give you plenty of chrono tokens over the full season.
- Event Navigation: There's a new events section that shows all current activities in one place. After matches, you can quickly check your battle pass progress and event rewards without going through different menus.
- Discord Integration: You can now chat with your Discord friends directly inside the game. Even when you're not playing Marvel Rivals, your friends can still see you're online and message you through Discord.
- Technical Fixes: Players with Nvidia graphics cards should update to driver version 576.80 or later to reduce GPU crashes.
- Battle Pass Changes: The battle pass still has 10 costumes and costs the same amount. Since seasons are shorter now, you earn chrono tokens faster to unlock everything without spending more time grinding.
