Marvel Rivals Season 5 Invitation Might Be Hiding a Clue to a Third New Hero

NetEase has officially released a Season 5 teaser in the form of a wedding invitation for Rogue and Gambit. While this confirms that the iconic lovebirds are joining the roster, the teaser also seems to include a hidden message that could hint at a third new hero.

The invitation itself is styled as a playing card, a clever nod to Gambit’s signature weapon. It reveals that Anna Marie and Remy LeBeau are getting married in Krakoa on November 11, which likely hints at the date for the Season 5 trailer reveal.

But what’s really interesting is a possible hidden clue within the card (first pointed out by @Betrigansmh on X). On the left side of the invitation, three chess pieces can be seen: a King, a Queen, and a Rook.

The King and Queen clearly represent Gambit and Rogue, but that leaves the question: who is the Rook? This intriguing detail suggests that NetEase might be teasing a third new hero coming in Season 5.

Now, let’s explore the possible characters who could be connected to this mysterious ‘Rook’ chess piece.

Deadpool

Deadpool is one of the most anticipated characters to be introduced in Marvel Rivals, and Season 5 seems like the perfect time for it. Many fan theories suggest that Gambit and Rogue will be released together when Season 5 launches. If that happens, Season 5.5, which also marks the game’s one-year anniversary, could feature Deadpool as the surprise hero.

Deadpool’s files have already been leaked in the past. What’s even more interesting is that he might have been referenced in Squirrel Girl’s lore entry, which mentions how the Collector sent a “strange man in red” to find Psylocke.

Considering that leaks also point to Collector’s Theme Park as the potential new map for Season 5, this connection fits perfectly with the ongoing lore. Coincidence?

Colossus

Colossus, the Russian tank, has previously been leaked from the game files. In the X-Men universe, Colossus is often seen as the frontline fortress, which could be strongly connected to the Rook chess piece. If he is indeed the surprise character, then it’s safe to say that we’ll be getting a new Vanguard.

Professor X

The head of the X-Men, Professor X, was also previously leaked along with his possible skill names. Charles Xavier could very well be the surprise character, as he has a strong connection with both Rogue and Gambit. The Rook symbol might actually represent Professor X himself, symbolizing the safe haven he has provided for these mutants.

The invitation also mentions Krakoa as the venue, and interestingly, his statue can be found there. The hint might have been right under our noses all this time.

Juggernaut

Another one of Marvel fans’ most beloved characters, Juggernaut, could also be linked to this hidden message. A Rook in chess can only move in a straight line, which might hint at Juggernaut’s unstoppable charging power. However, this theory is a bit of a long shot, as there have been no leaked files or information about Juggernaut in the past.

Doctor Doom

A Rook could also simply hint toward the arrival of a new Vanguard, and Doctor Doom fits that role perfectly. While his addition would definitely excite players, it’s unlikely that Doom will become a playable character this soon, as most of the current in-game lore still portrays him as a central villain.

There are many names in Marvel that could be connected to this hidden message, but these are the ones with the strongest potential to be introduced. However, this is all speculation based on a small clue, which might just turn out to be a simple card decoration with no deeper meaning. Nevertheless, it’s still an exciting Season to look forward to.
