How to Play Gambit

Gambit's abilities revolve around his Chronovium-enhanced cards, which can heal allies, clear negative effects, and provide buffs. On the offensive side, he can also deal damage, knock enemies back, and apply anti-heal debuffs.

Gambit features an interesting mechanic that allows him to switch between healing and crowd control abilities using two card types: Hearts and Spades. Each time he selects a card type and uses the special cards after, one charge will be consumed, with four charges available in total.

The main challenge of playing Gambit is managing your card skills wisely. You can’t just spam abilities, one wrong move can lead to a fatal mistake. It’s important to understand when to use each special card and to activate them only when your team needs specific support.

Make sure to practice often so you don’t misclick or waste key skills. Muscle memory is essential when mastering Gambit.

Hearts

Gambit’s Hearts cards (E) form his healing kit. By selecting the Hearts card, two new abilities become available:

 • E: Throws a card that bounces between allies, healing them.
 • F: Throws cards around him, healing and removing debuffs from nearby allies.

This kit focuses on healing and cleansing. The standout ability is his debuff remover, which can be a true game-changer, instantly freeing teammates from stuns. In the trailer, Gambit uses it to remove Doctor Strange’s stun ultimate from all affected allies, showcasing just how crucial this ability can be.

Spades

Gambit’s Spade cards (F) serve as his crowd control kit. When choosing the Spade card, two different skills are unlocked:

 • E: Throws cards around him, damaging and knocking back enemies hit.
 • F: Throws a deck of explosive cards, damaging enemies and applying anti-heal.

This kit focuses heavily on crowd control. His knockback can save allies from divers or help disengage from losing fights, while his anti-heal can cripple enemies relying on pocket healers, making it a powerful counter when timed correctly.

Gambit wields his Bo Staff with agile precision, allowing him to move swiftly across the battlefield. This makes him a semi-DPS hybrid Strategist, capable of guarding the backline and protecting other Strategists from flankers.

Ultimate

His ultimate ability lets him launch kinetic-charged aces to nearby allies, granting them supercharged jumps, health regeneration, and explosive attacks. This powerful buffing ultimate can easily turn the tide of battle, especially when contesting objectives or pushing aggressively. Unleashing his ultimate also destroys destructible objects around him.

Overall, Gambit is shaping up to be an exciting DPS-support hybrid, focusing on buffing, debuffing, cleansing, and crowd control from the backline. He’s a hero that rewards good timing, strong positioning, and smart prioritization, perfect for players who enjoy a dynamic and tactical playstyle.

Gambit Team-Up Ability

A new Team-Up ability called “Explosive Entanglement” has been introduced alongside Gambit, where he acts as the anchor, channeling his kinetic energy to Magneto[item]. When activated, Magneto can form and launch greatswords forward to deal great damage to enemies.

This mechanic is similar to how Magneto previously performed sword strikes in his Team-Up with [item]Scarlet Witch during Season 0. By reintroducing this feature, Magneto can once again adopt a more aggressive playstyle, reminiscent of his earlier days.

Best Team Composition for Gambit

The best team compositions for Gambit are those that include heroes who can fully utilize his offensive buffs and complement his aggressive playstyle. Heroes like Captain America, Magik, and Blade benefit greatly from Gambit’s anti-heal abilities, allowing them to secure kills more effectively during close engagements.

Meanwhile, heroes such as Star-Lord, Punisher, and Winter Soldier, who rely on high burst damage and rapid fire-rate, can take full advantage of Gambit’s ultimate ability, which grants explosive power and enhanced mobility. This synergy enables them to push objectives and dominate fights with greater efficiency.

How to Counter Gambit

The best way to counter Gambit is by disabling or eliminating him quickly before he can support his team. Heroes like Hulk are highly effective, as his Gamma Stun can interrupt Gambit’s abilities, and his shield can protect teammates from Gambit’s ultimate.

Burst damage heroes such as Magik, Blade, and Star-Lord can easily chase and punish Gambit due to his low health pool, making him an easy target when caught off guard. Ultron’s high damage can also pressure Gambit heavily, forcing him to retreat or misplay.

Additionally, Jeff the Land Shark’s ultimate is a direct counter to Gambit’s ultimate. When Gambit activates it, Jeff can swallow him and his allies instantly, canceling the ability and potentially spitting him out to his death.

When Did Gambit Release?

Gambit was released at the start of Season 5 on November 14, 2025, alongside the Season 5 Battle Pass and a new non-combat map, Times Square.
