Lore

"You an' me, we need to talk, Erik," Gambit said, his intense red eyes fixed on Magneto.
"Now is not the time, Remy," Magneto said as he used his Mutant power to unleash a hailstorm of metallic debris toward the Grandmaster's goons. "I am busy fighting for the future of our people!"
"Some of 'em, maybe," Gambit said, effortlessly hurling a charged playing card at another cosmic enforcer, "but you’re leavin' others high an' dry."
"Ah, this is about Rogue..." Magneto said, realizing what was bothering his fellow X-Man.
"She's the only thing we got in common," Gambit replied. "Difference is, I wanna protect that girl, while you banned her from returnin' home to Krakoa!"
"It was for good reason," Magneto argued, his focus still on the battle raging around them. "I couldn't let Krakoa become the next Grand Garden. Her powers are out of control."
"You wanna see out of control?" Gambit asked, preforming an acrobatic leap over Magneto and grabbing the giant sword right off the Master of Magnetism's back. "Lemme show you!"
Gambit used his Mutant power to convert the potential energy within Magneto's greatsword into volatile kinetic energy. Its haunting glow on Gambit’s face showed Magneto just how serious his friend was.
"You don’t know what you're doing," Magneto snapped, using his abilities to rip the fully-charged weapon out of Gambit’s hands, sending it hurling across the battlefield. As it impacted a distant wall, it exploded in a massive burst of energy. Magneto summoned back the fractured pieces of his sword, instantly reassembling it in his grip.
"I know exactly what I'm doin'," Gambit said. "An' next time, I won' be holdin' back!"
"There will not be a next time," Magneto said, sheathing his weapon once more. "I have faith that we can resolve our differences without fighting. You are a man of honor, Remy. That is why I gave you and Rogue my blessing... And it is why I know we will forge ahead toward a solution... together."
Taken aback by Magneto’s words, Gambit grumbled under his breath and began to walk away. He may not have gotten the fight he was itching for, but deep down, he hoped Magneto was right. After all, Rogue's future depended on it...

Explosive Entanglement Guide

Magneto

In this Team-Up, Gambit acts as the anchor, granting Magneto the ability to replace his primary fire with greatswords that explode on impact and deliver a delayed second hit to damaged enemies.

The sword is finally back! After Magneto’s Team-Up with Scarlet Witch was removed, he couldn’t be as aggressive as he used to be, but now he’s back. This ability grants Magneto much more offensive power, allowing him to pressure enemies effectively during team fights.

Primary Targets

The main targets while this Team-Up is active are Strategists and Duelists. Magneto’s greatswords deal massive damage, punishing low- to mid-health enemies who play recklessly.

Offensive Playstyle

With Gambit as his ally and this Team-Up active, Magneto’s playstyle shifts to a highly offensive approach, dealing heavy burst damage that’s especially useful for pushing enemies back or securing capture points.

However, just like his normal attacks, the greatswords are also projectiles, and they’re not particularly fast. You’ll need to learn the timing to hit moving enemies effectively. It’s recommended to practice the new attack pattern in the training range against moving or flying targets to get used to it.

Best Against

Explosive Entanglement is best used against Strategists and mid-ranged Duelists:

Best Counters

These are the best heroes to counter Explosive Entanglement:

The ultimate counter to Explosive Entanglement is shield heroes. Simply put a shield in front of Magneto, and he won’t be able to do much except waste his attacks. Magneto has poor mobility, meaning he can’t easily find a way around it.

Mantis is also a great counter to this Team-Up, as she can simply put Magneto to sleep, forcing him to waste the ability.

Another effective way to counter this Team-Up is by using fast-moving tank busters like Iron Fist and Wolverine, who can quickly close the distance and eliminate Magneto before he can deal significant damage.

Rogue

Gambit also shares his kinetic energy with Rogue, causing her attacks to explode, damaging enemies while healing allies.

The best time to activate this Team-Up is during full team fights, especially when both teams are contesting an objective. It shines the most during Ultimate clashes, where multiple players are grouped tightly on a point, allowing Rogue to maximize both damage and healing value.

Avoid wasting this ability on one-on-one or small skirmishes, as its cooldown is relatively long. Save it for coordinated Ultimate combos and high-intensity engagements where your entire team can benefit from its full impact.

Best Counters

The best heroes to counter Rogue’s explosive attacks are those with strong crowd control. Luna Snow, Mantis, and Bruce Banner can completely shut Rogue down by stunning her, preventing her from moving or following up with damage.

Meanwhile, heroes like Thor, Winter Soldier, and Invisible Woman excel at displacement. Their push and pull abilities can force Rogue away from her teammates, breaking her positioning and significantly reducing the impact of her explosive damage.
