After losing his team-up with Venom, Spider-Man had a rough time in season 2.5. This hurt his standing in the meta, and most players found it hard to make him work. Now in season 3, Spider-Man gets a new Team-up ability with another character. He teams up with Human Torch in one of two new team-ups this season, with the other one being the Primal Flame.

Lore
When Groot’s wooden body shatters into splinters during battle, it’s usually up to Rocket to collect the pieces and nurture his partner back to health. But now that Jeff is in the mix, there’s someone new to fetch Groot’s twigs and even help with the watering! Rocket can never be replaced, but luckily, Groot’s got room on his other shoulder!
“These fellas may not exactly be the best at conversation, but there ain’t no others I’d rather partner up with!”
Ever Burning Bond Guide
The Ever-Burning Bond team-up gives Spider-Man some much-needed firepower. Human Torch is the anchor in this team-up, so he will probably get a health bonus. However, Spider-Man is the one who gains the major advantage from this team-up.
Human Torch channels his flames into a special gadget for Spider-Man. This unlocks a flaming web ability that deals damage over time and puts burn tracers on enemies.
When you activate this team-up (press C by default), Spider-Man shoots a flaming web that you can follow up with his "get over here" ability to zip to enemies. When he reaches them, he triggers an explosion. The best part is that burn tracers and spider tracers can both stick to the same enemy at once.
This extra damage helps Spider-Man confirm kills, which was his biggest problem last season. The team-up works great with his hit-and-run style. You swing to the back lines, find a target that's alone, activate the team-up, then follow up with "get over here" and your "amazing combo" abilities. This should be enough to take down enemies with low health. After that, use your web swing to get out safely.
Best Against
This team-up works best against characters with low health pools or characters with less mobility (Mostly strategists and back-line Duelists). Spider-Man can dive into the backlines and punish the isolated characters. Spider-Man is one of the best melee characters against Flying Characters, and this team-up gives him extra power to pressure flying characters.
- Black Widow and Hawkeye both like to stay in the back lines where they free hit on enemies.
- Flying characters like Iron Man, Storm, and Ultron have always been good targets for Spider-Man, and this team-up gives him even more power to pressure them.
- Adam Warlock is a strategist who loves staying in the back lines to pressure enemies from afar.
Best Counters
Characters with high health pool or crowd control can shut down this team-up pretty easily. Vanguard characters won't worry much about this combo unless they are on extremely low health.
- Groot gives Spider-Man trouble because his ultimate can lock him in place.
- Peni Parker creates problems with her mines.
- Emma Frost can grab Spider-Man and limit his escape options.
- Wolverine might be the biggest counter in the duelist category. He can sustain through the damage, and with his new team-up, he's even harder to kill.
- Winter Soldier is another anti-Dive character that is good against Spider-Man.
- Mantis and Luna Snow both have crowd control that can stop Spider-Man, leaving him exposed.
The key to using this team-up well is picking your fights. Go after isolated targets and avoid getting caught by tanks or characters with strong crowd control. The burn damage gives Spider-Man the extra push he needed to be relevant again.
