A new and exciting gameplay mechanic has been revealed in Marvel Rivals with the Winter 2025 update, the ability for characters to shrink and expand in size. What makes this feature even more intriguing is that it could serve as a subtle yet obvious hint toward the future arrival of Ant-Man and The Wasp. So, what could The Wasp bring to Marvel Rivals? Let’s break down her possible roles, abilities, and gameplay mechanics based on her lore and the new system.
The Wasp Hinted in Marvel Rivals?
After the Winter Update on December 18, Marvel Rivals players can try out a new mechanic involving Pym Particles. In the non-combat map, Times Square, a booth from Pym’s Test Kitchen opens and offers players a Pym-ini Sandwich, and it comes with a surprise!
After consuming the sandwich, players can either shrink or grow in size, showcasing the effects of Pym Particle technology. This immediately raises speculation: could this be a subtle hint that Ant-Man or The Wasp may be introduced to Marvel Rivals in the future?

The Wasp, in particular, has another strong hint, this time in the form of an easter egg, found in both the Times Square and Midtown maps. In these areas, players can spot billboards and an actual storefront for Van Dyne’s Boutique.
As of now, NetEase has not confirmed anything regarding their inclusion, leaving players in speculation based solely on these subtle in-game hints. Aside from that, there have been no leaks or datamined information related to Ant-Man or The Wasp so far. This puts players completely in the dark, making this new in-game mechanic the only hint we currently have regarding their possible inclusion.
Marvel Rivals The Wasp Abilities & Role Prediction
Currently, there have been no leaks regarding The Wasp’s data in the game. However, with the introduction of the new shrinking mechanic, it’s possible to speculate on what kind of character she could be if she becomes playable.
Note: The following is purely personal speculation based on comic lore and in-game hints, and is not based on official Marvel Rivals information.
Many players might assume she would be a Strategist, but that is actually unlikely. The Wasp fits the Duelist role much better, as she is generally portrayed as stronger and more combat-experienced than Ant-Man. Whether NetEase chooses Janet Van Dyne or Hope Van Dyne as The Wasp, both versions are more capable in direct combat compared to Scott Lang or Hank Pym as Ant-Man.
High Mobility by Shrinking

The Wasp possesses extraordinary abilities derived from Pym Particles, allowing her to manipulate her physical size in both directions. Interestingly, becoming smaller actually makes her stronger relative to her size, giving her the ability to bend thick steel bars despite her tiny stature. This shrinking mechanic could work well as her mobility skill, allowing her to catch enemies by surprise and deal bonus damage when she resurfaces.
When miniaturized, cybernetic insect wings enable her to achieve high-speed flight with exceptional maneuverability. This aerial agility grants her enhanced reflexes, making her incredibly difficult to hit in combat. This could also serve as a key mobility skill, allowing her to fly freely for a short period of time.
Wasp's Sting

Her signature offensive ability is the "Wasp's Sting", powerful bio-electric energy blasts fired from her hands. These energy bursts pack enough punch to slice through dense materials and injure even superhuman opponents. This would be her primary attack move.
Beyond her powers, Janet is a highly skilled fighter trained by Captain America. She's mastered a unique combat style specifically designed for fighting at miniature size, targeting vulnerable points on larger opponents before they can react. With this skill, she could have an active ability that allows her to shrink while dealing burst damage to an enemy.
Subatomic Ultimate
Her Ultimate would likely involve entering the subatomic space, granting her extremely fast, unrestricted movement and dealing heavy burst damage upon exiting. The mechanic could work similarly to Jeff the Land Shark’s or Storm’s Ultimate.
Marvel Rivals The Wasp Gameplay Prediction

The Wasp would fit really well as a flanker Duelist in Marvel Rivals, capable of dealing high burst damage with exceptional mobility thanks to her shrinking mechanics.
Her gameplay would largely depend on whether NetEase designs her as a single-target specialist or an AoE damage dealer. However, based on her lore-accurate abilities, she would be more fitting as a single-target-focused flanker.
As a flanker, she would be extremely fast and very hard to catch, forcing enemies to rely on stuns or hard crowd control to lock her down. With her flight capability, she could also pose a serious threat to airborne heroes like Iron Man, Storm, Human Torch, and Ultron.
Her Ultimate could either be a high-damage AoE ability or a crowd-control skill that instantly stuns enemies when she exits the subatomic space. That said, these are purely speculations, and her actual kit could be very different if she arrives in the future.
Bottom line: The Wasp would likely shape up to be a highly annoying Duelist who requires extra preparation and coordination to deal with.
When Will The Wasp Release in Marvel Rivals?
The Wasp is unlikely to be introduced before Season 7 or later, which would place her potential release around March 2026 or beyond. The new heroes for Season 6 have already been confirmed as Deadpool and Elsa Bloodstone, and other previously leaked characters, such as Professor X or Nightcrawler, are more likely to arrive before The Wasp.
Again, these are purely speculations, so take them with a grain of salt. This page will be updated as soon as more official information surfaces.
